This policy explains what information ProSe Tax collects, how it is used, and who it goes to. ProSe Tax is AI software for preparing and filing your own tax return; it is not a CPA firm, an enrolled agent, or a law firm, and is operated by an individual, not a firm.
ProSe Tax runs entirely on Amazon Web Services (AWS), in the United States. Documents are stored in an object store (S3) encrypted at rest with a key we control (KMS); your tax profile, saved worksheet and guided-form answers, account and chat history are stored in a database (DynamoDB) in the same account. Nothing is stored unencrypted, and every connection to our servers uses HTTPS. Access is limited to your own signed-in session; admins can see account, plan and usage information in order to run the service.
We use this information to run the service, answer and draft for you, keep accounts secure, respond to your requests, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell personal information, do not share it for advertising, and do not use it to train AI models.
Before the Adviser reads a text document or your question, before an answer is stored, and in the Adviser’s engagement memory, full Social Security numbers, taxpayer IDs (ITIN/EIN), and account or card numbers are cut to their last four digits, and birth dates to the year. A PDF or a photograph is sent as it is, unredacted, because the numbers cannot be blacked out without changing the image itself — this is why a PDF or photo you attach should already have anything you do not want an AI system to see removed. This redaction is never applied to the e-file feature, which must transmit your actual return with full identifiers to be accepted by the IRS.
Plain-language summary: to answer a question or draft something for you, the Adviser sends your question and any attached documents to an outside AI service provider under a contract that keeps your data out of that provider’s model training and limits its use to producing your answer. That is a use and disclosure of your tax return information under federal law, and the law (Internal Revenue Code § 7216) requires us to get your affirmative, written consent before we do it — separate from agreeing to these policies generally, and never assumed by using the rest of the app. You give this consent, or decline it, as its own checkbox in the same sheet as the Terms of Service; declining it turns off the Adviser and Coach only, not the rest of ProSe Tax. It lasts one year from when you gave or last renewed it, after which the Adviser and Coach ask for it again before your next question — the rest of the app keeps working either way — and you can withdraw it sooner at any time in Settings (Account > AI consent), or by deleting your account.
Formal consent statement [VERIFY against the current text of Rev. Proc. 2013-14 and 26 CFR 301.7216-3 before this consent is relied on for a paid or multi-user launch]: Federal law requires this consent form be provided to you. The recipient of this disclosure — the AI service provider that receives your tax return information under this consent — is Anthropic, PBC. Unless authorized by law, we cannot disclose your tax return information to third parties for purposes other than the preparation and filing of your tax return without your consent. If you consent to the disclosure of your tax return information, federal law may not protect your tax return information from further use or distribution by the recipient. You are not required to complete this form to engage our services. If we obtain your signature (or affirmative electronic acceptance) on this form by conditioning our services on your consent, your consent will not be valid. Your consent is valid for one year from the date given, or from your most recent renewal, whichever is later, unless you otherwise specify or withdraw your consent sooner (in Settings, or in writing). If you believe your tax return information has been disclosed or used improperly in a manner unauthorized by law or without your permission, you may contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) by telephone at 1-800-366-4484, or by email at complaints@tigta.treas.gov.
We do not name our AI service provider anywhere else in ProSe Tax — it is named only in the formal consent statement above, as this disclosure requires. The contract terms governing it (no training on your data, confidential handling, deletion on our request) are available to you on request through the app, and to any regulator or auditor who needs them.
We share information only with the service providers below, only as needed to run the service. We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising.
| Who | What they receive |
|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services | Hosting, storage, database and email sending for the service. |
| Our AI service provider | The Adviser’s question and any documents sent with it (after redaction, where redaction applies — see above), to produce an answer or draft, only once you have given the § 7216 consent above. Under its commercial terms, it does not train its models on this content. |
| Only if you choose Sign in with Google. | |
| Cloudflare Turnstile | A bot check when you sign up. |
| The IRS, via Modernized e-File | Only for the account owner’s own e-filed return, under the owner’s own EFIN. |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it (for example, a valid subpoena or court order), or to protect people’s safety or our rights.
Questions to the Adviser, its answers, and the documents you attach are not protected by any accountant-client or attorney-client privilege, because no CPA, enrolled agent or attorney is involved. You should assume that anything you type could be requested by the IRS or in a legal proceeding.
Information is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and encrypted at rest by our cloud provider. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires.
You must be 13 or older to use ProSe Tax. If you are 13 to 17, you may use only its free features (no Adviser, no paid plan), and should do so with a parent’s or guardian’s permission. We ask for your birth month and year once, to check your age. For an adult, we keep only that you are an adult, not the month or year. If you are under 18, we keep the month you turn 18 (from which your birth month and year could be worked out), so your limits lift on their own; once you turn 18, we keep only that you are an adult. If someone says they are under 13, or we learn that someone under 13 has an account, we close it and delete their information at once, keeping only a note that the account is closed until an admin reviews it.
If you are 13 to 17, we also keep less about you than an adult member: you cannot add documents to your Documents library, and we do not keep a tax profile for you on our server — your tax profile stays only in this browser, on your own device, and one saved to your account before this rule is handed back to this browser and removed from our server once this browser confirms it has kept a copy. Your saved worksheet and guided-form answers stay on the device where you typed them, too. Documents you uploaded earlier stay until you delete them. The one file you can still send us is proof that you are a student, if you apply for the free Student plan: it is kept privately, is opened only by an admin reviewing your application, and is deleted when the admin decides, when you withdraw your application, or after 30 days. Coach and the practice returns (for a verified student) still work normally.
Some states give additional rights, such as the right to know what information we hold, to access it, to correct it, to delete it, or to opt out of the sale of personal information (which we do not do). Contact us to use any of these rights and we will respond as the law requires.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will show the change in the app and ask you to agree again before you keep using ProSe Tax.
Questions about this policy, or to exercise any of the rights above: reach us from inside the app, or by email at support@mytradingpulse.com.
